Proyecto 34°S is an independent artistic exchange with a focus on contemporary African and Latin American theatre and the performing arts. Founded by Nikki Froneman (South Africa), it takes its name from the 34ºS line of latitude which links Cape Town and Buenos Aires, the first two cities to actively participate in the exchange. From its base in Buenos Aires, Argentina, Proyecto 34ºS works with a number of volunteers, currently approximately 75 individuals, as well as partner organizations and advisors, from diverse cultural and professional backgrounds who collaborate in a variety of ways in the realization of its artistic exchange projects.
Awards:
2009: Eighteen months after its foundation, Proyecto 34ºS was nominated in the category of Institution by the Premios Teatro del Mundo (Theatre of the World Awards). These respected awards are administered by the Centro Cultural Ricardo Rojas and the University of Buenos Aires.
Every year, Every day, I am Walking (Magnet Theatre), one of the productions chosen for the P34S First Festival of South African Theatre (Buenos Aires, April 2009) was nominated in the category of Best Foreign Play, also by the Premios Teatro del Mundo (Theatre of the World Awards).
